Late Shooting Woes Doom Lions at Austin Peay, Fall 81-60

Lions Finish Game 0-19 in Loss to Governors

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State finished the game on a 30-2 run to rally past the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team, 81-60, Saturday night at the Dunn Center.
 
The Lions (2-4) opened the game in complete control as they led by as much as 14 in the first half, 37-23.
 
Austin Peay was able to cut into the lead. SLU had three starters in foul trouble in the first 12 minutes of the game allowing the Governors to stay within strike distance in the first half as APSU was 10-for-15 from the free throw line in the first half alone.
 
Southeastern maintained the lead at halftime as they led 48-43 thanks to a three-pointer just before the first-half buzzer by freshman Jeremiah Saunders.
 
The Governors rallied back in the second half but the Lions held a 60-59 advantage with 8:49 remaining in the game after a jumper by junior Brandon Gonzalez. However, SLU finished the game 0-for-19 not scoring again and scored just two points in the final 11:54.
 
Saunders led Southeastern with 14 points including four three-pointers. Pape Diop and Brandon Gonzalez each scored nine points to aid SLU. The Lions finished the game 27-for-72 from the field.
 
APSU (2-3) was led by Ohio Valley Preseason Conference Player of the Year Terry Taylor. The junior scored 37 points on 15-for-21 shooting while snatching 16 rebounds. The Governors shot just 14-for-38 as a team outside of Taylor. Jordyn Adams added 16 points while Reginald Gee paced Austin Peay with 12 points to help APSU to the win.
 
The Governors finished 14-for-21 from the free throw line while the Lions were 3-for-6.
 
Next up, the Lions will head to Nashville, Tennessee to face Vanderbilt (4-1) Monday night at 7 p.m. Monday's game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
