CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Ana Recarte-Pacheo and Abby Deakin each scored goals for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as the Islanders defeated the Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer Stadium.

Recarte Pacheo, a freshman, scored in the 41
st minute on a corner kick that went to Deakin who found Pacheo in front of the net after a pretty touch pass in the box. Deakin, a junior from Broomfield, Colorado, put the match away with a goal in the 84
th minute.

The Lady Lions (2-9-1, 1-4-0 Southland) attempted nine shots with five on goal but were unable to cash in. Sophomore Darby Gillete led SLU with two shots while
Megan Gordon,
Amber Marinero,
Mya Guillory,
Ellie Williams and Hanna Moffat each attempted a shot.

The Islanders (6-5-1, 3-1-1 Southland) took 11 shots led by Dana Curtis with three and Emma Gibbs with two.

Third-year SLU soccer head coach Chris McBride, despite the outcome, complimented his team's energy Sunday.

"Our energy was contagious," said McBride. "The whole team energized each other and kept each other pushing on a hot day and that was fantastic. We've still got a lot of the season left and we will get back to work and prepare for our next opponent."

While the Lady Lions were on the wrong end of the result Sunday, all was not lost on the weekend. SLU defeated Houston Baptist, 1-0, Friday for the first victory over the Huskies in program history (1-7-2).

Next up, Southeastern will return home to take on Lamar (6-6, 4-1 Southland), Friday night at 6 p.m. The Lady Lions and Cardinals played to 0-0 tie last year in Beaumont, Texas. Lamar comes into Friday's match red hot winning six of their last seven matches including a 5-0 win over Sam Houston State, Sunday at home
