SFA Holds Off Lions, 65-60

Lions Drop Sixth Straight

NACODOCHES, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team committed 23 turnovers Wednesday night falling to Stephen F. Austin 65-60 in the Southland Conference opener on the road.

The Lions (4-10) led 26-17 late in the first half and seemed to have SFA reeling. The Lumberjacks cut into the lead right before the half as SLU led 26-21 at halftime.

The Lumberjacks (8-5) opened the second half on an 11-2 run to take a 32-28 lead with 14:53 remaining.

SLU stayed within striking distance for much of the second half trailing 43-42 with 7:31 remaining. SFA, however, stormed on a 13-2 run to take a 56-45 lead with 3:11 left. Southeastern didn't quit. The Lions fought back cutting it to a one possession game, 61-58, with 18 seconds left but the Lumberjacks hit four straight free throws to seal the game.

Southeastern did their job defensively holding the 'Jacks to 20-for-51 shooting for 39 percent. The Lions, however, committed 20 turnovers. SFA shot 19-for-27 from the free throw line while SLU was 5-for-9.

SFA's Shannon Bogues led all scorers with 18 points. SLU's Brandon Gonzalez had 16 points including three 3-pointers. Von Julien added 13 for the Lions.

The Lumberjacks improved to 92-6 at home since the start of the 2012-2013 season.
