HAMMOND, La. – E.W. Foy, who led the Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team to the 1972-73 Division II National Tournament, will be inducted into the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame next month, the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches (LABC) announced on Tuesday.
Foy, who coached the Lions from 1969-74, will be inducted in conjunction with the LABC's 44
th Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, May 5 at 6 p.m. in the Embassy Suites Hotel in Baton Rouge.
Foy is the fifth Lion overall to be inducted into the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame, joining C.A. Core (1980), Luther Marlar (1986), Dick Sharp (1995) and Don Wilson (1997).
Foy has the highest winning percentage in Southeastern history at .504 (65-64). His 1972-73 squad went 21-7 in route to the Gulf South Conference championship. The Lions won 13 straight games from Jan. 18-Feb. 22, 1973, the second-longest streak in school history. Southeastern advanced to the NCAA Division II South Regional Playoffs, defeating Chattanooga 67-64 at home before losing to eventual national runner-up Tennessee State, 62-57.
The Osyka, Mississippi native served as an assistant with the Lions in 1968-69 before taking over the reins from Bert Barnett in 1969-70.
Prior to Southeastern, the 1959 graduate of William Carey College coached at Baton Rouge High School where he led the program to a state championship and two state finals.
