Let’s Get Tropical: Smoot Fever Volleyball Match Thursday

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana wraps up its current homestand with a pair of Homecoming Week volleyball matches Thursday and Saturday in the University Center.
 
The Lady Lions (1-17, 0-6 Southland) host Lamar (6-11, 3-3 Southland) at 7 p.m. Thursday in the annual Smoot Fever match and finish out the homestand at 12 p.m. Saturday against McNeese (5-15, 3-2 Southland).
 
Celebrate the tropical lifestyle and catch Smoot Fever. Shirt and shoes required. Southeastern Athletics Marketing will have prizes and raffles in the concourse.
 
Admission is free and fans are asked to enter the arena down the ramp at Gate 3. Volleyball posters and magnet schedules will be available in the Fan Zone.

OPPONENT NOTES
  • Tomar Thomas (2.98 kills/set), Ivette Dim (2.05 k/s), Abigale Nash (1.97 k/s), Kyla Rogers (4.74 assist/set) and Alyssa Legette (4.56 a/s) pace the Cardinals' offense. Zahria Scott leads the squad with 18 service aces.
  • Lamar's offense has combined for .183 attack percentage, while opponents are hitting .242 against the defense.
  • Erin Pequeno (2.89 digs/set) and Nash (2.44 d/s) are the Cardinals top defenders along the back line. Dim (0.83 blocks/set), Bre'Ala Box (0.60 b/s) and Dannisha House (0.53 b/s) are the squad's top blocking threats.

LAST MATCH
Southeastern Louisiana dropped a Southland Conference match in straight sets to Central Arkansas, 25-18, 25-9, 25-18, Saturday at the University Center. The Sugar Bears (15-4, 5-1 Southland) won their fifth-consecutive conference match, topping Southeastern for the second time this season.
 
Gomez (Mandeville, Louisiana) led the Lady Lions with eight kills and a season-best .538 attack percentage. Edo (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and Golden (Mandeville) contributed six kills each to the offensive attack. All three had a hand in on a block.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern embarks on a three-match road trip to Sam Houston State (Oct. 18), Abilene Christian (Oct. 20) and Southern Miss (Oct. 23) following the pair of Homecoming Week contests.
 
The Lady Lions' final homestand of the season, which begins Oct. 27, features conference matches against Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist.

Fans interested in becoming active supporters of the Southeastern volleyball program are encouraged to join the Diggin' It Club. Lady Lion volleyball alums are encouraged to join the exclusive S Club, which is restricted to Southeastern athletic letter winners. S Club members also gain membership in the Diggin' It Club.
