HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana dropped its Southland Conference opener Thursday at the University Center, 26-24, 25-21, 26-24, to two-time defending conference champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
 
The Islanders (4-8, 1-0 Southland) extended their winning streak against Southland competition to 39 consecutive matches with the win over Southeastern (2-12, 0-1 Southland).
 
In the opening set, A&M-Corpus Christi rallied from a six-point deficit at set point to claim a, 26-24, win. The Islanders rode the momentum to a sweep.
 
 
NOTES

• Sophomore middle Savannah Alcazar (League City, Texas) turned in a career-high 12 kills to lead the Lady Lions, equaling the total also put up in the match by defending Southland Player of the Year Brittany Gilpin of A&M-Corpus Christi.
• Sophomore hitter Chloee Holden (Alvin, Texas) posted double-digit kills (11) for the first time this season, swinging at a .357 clip against the Islanders.
• Southeastern recorded a .191 attack percentage as a team, its second highest of the season.
• Freshman middle Tempestt Vaughn (Beaumont, Texas) had a hand in all five of the Lady Lions' blocks.

 
 
UP NEXT
Saturday at 1 p.m., prior to the Southeastern Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony and evening football game, the Lady Lions will host Incarnate Word (2-6, 1-0 Southland) in another Southland match. In New Orleans, Louisiana, UIW defeated UNO, 3-2, Thursday at the Human Performance Center.
