Lady Lions Host HBU in Homecoming Week Match

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana returns home from a three-match road trip to host Houston Baptist in a Southland Conference volleyball match Thursday at 6 p.m. in the University Center.
 
The match between the Lady Lions (2-16, 0-4 Southland) and HBU (12-5, 4-1 Southland) helps begin a three-day stretch of Southeastern athletic events that are part of the annual Homecoming Week festivities. A lip sync contest for students will follow the match at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the University Center.
 
Admission to the match is free and fans are asked to enter the arena upstairs at Gate 3. Volleyball posters and magnet schedules will be available in the Fan Zone, and students can earn points toward their LionUp Loyalty account by checking in on the app while in attendance.

Southeastern, which has dropped six straight, is looking for its first win since defeating Jackson State at the Maroon Classic in Starkville, Mississippi.

  • Seven regulars in the Lady Lion lineup are averaging at least one kill per set, led by sophomore Savannah Alcazar (2.18 per set).
  • Southeastern is averaging 10.31 kills with a .119 attack percentage, 9.46 assists, 13.02 digs and 1.41 blocks per set. Opponents are averaging 13.41 kills with a .245 attack percentage, 12.68 assists, 14.95 digs and 2.33 blocks per set.
  • Since Houston Baptist joined the Southland Conference in 2013, the road team has won all four matches. Southeastern last defeated the Huskies in 2015, 3-1, in Houston, Texas.

Picked fourth in the Southland's preseason poll … currently sits in third place in the standings, one match back of conference-leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi … Bailey Banks and Blair Gillard earned first team preseason All-Conference honors and Jessica Wooten picked up second team honors … Banks (3.79 per set) and Wooten (2.92 per set) lead HBU in kills with Banks ranking second in the conference … Gillard (1.32 per set) leads the Southland in blocks … HBU has won its last two matches, defeating Lamar and Stephen F. Austin … the Huskies are averaging 13.70 kills with a .234 attack percentage, 12.72 assists, 15.85 digs and 2.46 blocks per set.
 
UP NEXT
With an open date Saturday, Southeastern returns to the court Tuesday in Beaumont, Texas, to face off against Lamar in another conference match.
