Lamar Rallies to Defeat Lady Lions

BEAUMONT, Texas – After dropping the opening set, Lamar rallied to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 13-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15, in a Southland Conference volleyball match Tuesday at McDonald Gym.

Lamar (3-12, 1-4 Southland) earned its first conference win of the season while the Lady Lions (2-18, 0-6 Southland) are still in search of their first.

Sophomore hitter Savannah Alcazar (League City, Texas) led Southeastern with 12 kills. Freshman middle Tempestt Vaughn (Beaumont, Texas) tied her career high with nine kills, equaling her output earlier this season against Jacksonville.

Junior setter Haley Baker (Elkton, Maryland) handed out 20 assists and freshman setter Michelle Mirarchi (Plano, Texas) dished out an additional 17 assists for the Lady Lions.

Sophomore hitter Elyssa Purcell (Alvin, Texas) served up five aces for Southeastern and junior defensive specialist Macey Stock (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) contributed three more.

Junior libero Lexie Torres (San Antonio, Texas) and Stock each recorded 13 digs.

NOTES
  • For Vaughn the match was a homecoming of sorts, having graduated from Beaumont's Ozen HS.
  • Southeastern set a season high with 10 service aces, topping the previous high of seven set earlier this season at Alabama State.
  • The Lady Lions' .199 attack percentage was their second best of the season.
  • The 62 points recorded by Southeastern is the second most the Lady Lions have recorded this season, trailing only the 75 points attained against Alabama State.
