Lady Lions, ULM Play to 0-0 Tie

HAMMOND, La. – Both Southeastern Louisiana and ULM had scoring opportunities but could not convert as the Lady Lions and Warhawks played to a scoreless tie at the SLU Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Lions (1-2-1) finished with 28 shots while ULM (1-2-1) had 21. Senior goalkeeper Hope Sabadash made 13 saves for Southeastern while Brooke Scroggins had 13 for ULM.

"We had several opportunities early that if we put away changes the course of the game," Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. "For us, it's just going to be getting back to training this coming week and finding the net. I thought Hope Sabadash had a commanding presence in goal. She made a couple of critical saves in the game today."

It was the first scoreless regular season match for Southeastern since Nov. 16, 2015 at Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State. Southeastern and Sam Houston also played a scoreless regulation in the 2015 Southland Conference Championship match before the Lady Lions won on penalty kicks.

In Sunday's match, Sabadash made a save of a shot by Maia Mumford off a corner by Danielle Sabathe 3:44 into the match. Sophomore midfielder Vanessa Arzaluz had a shot blocked and freshman midfielder Linda Karlsson missed wide on the follow at the 5:44 mark. Scroggins then blocked a shot by freshman midfielder Ylva Svendsen before the Warhawks cleared it out at the 8:36 mark.

Sabadash made a diving save of an attempt by Mary Ashton Lembo at the 10:05 mark, then grabbed a shot by Whitney Tuckford. Scroggins made saves of shots by sophomore defender Christina Cutura and junior midfielder Maggie Ramsey before Arzaluz sent a shot following an indirect kick by Ramsey wide at the 21:21 mark.

Scroggins grabbed a header by sophomore forward Sofia Olsson following a cross by Ramsey at the 22:26 mark. Sabadash saved a pair of shots by Cke'Lana Caesar in the final six minutes of the half.

Olsson had a shot blocked after taking a pass from senior midfielder Amber Lasher in the second half. Sophomore Payton Colson missed wide on the rebound.

Senior forward Casey Peacock blocked a shot in front of the net in the first overtime period. Caesar had another shot blocked after taking a pass from Sabathe in the period.

Southeastern wraps up a three-match homestand when it hosts Mississippi Valley State in Strawberry Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. The remainder of the Lady Lions' home matches are scheduled for Strawberry Stadium. Admission to all Southeastern home matches is free.
