HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana extended its school-record winning streak to 13 games Tuesday, defeating Southern 18-2 in seven innings at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

The patient Lions (19-6) worked back from an early deficit, scoring a season high in runs.

Southern (8-14) got on the board first as third baseman Troy Lewis led off the game with a solo home run to left field.

Southeastern tied it in the bottom half of the first inning.

Center fielder Jacob Seward was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and then stole second base, grabbing his team-leading 11th steal of the season.

Shortstop Brennan Breaud chopped the ball up the first-base line, beating out an infield hit, but Jaguar starting pitcher Harold Myles late throw was wild allowing Seward to score.

The Lions got all the runs they would need to win the game in the second.

Julian Service, who stole second, and Carson Crites drew back-to-back walks from reliever Jarod Jarreau (0-3) to open up the inning. Catcher Sam Roberson, a senior from Dallas, Texas, followed with an RBI single to left, driving in Service.

Crites and Roberson both advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch ahead of a walk to third baseman Kennon Menard. Seward drove in Crites on a sacrifice fly.

After a wild pitch moved both Roberson and Menard into scoring position, Breaud drew a walk to load the bases once again. Roberson scored on Jameson Fisher's sacrifice fly to right-center field to put the Lions up, 4-1.

Southeastern added a single run in the third, but the Jaguars got it back on one-out, solo home run by first baseman Marcus Hodge in the fourth inning.

The Lions put the game out of reach with four runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, tacking on the final five runs in the sixth.

Freshman right-hander Carlo Graffeo (3-0) earned the win, allowing the pair of solo homers in four innings of work. Gabe Von Rosenberg tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief and Cliff Hurst worked a scoreless seventh to close it out.

Breaud, Crites, Roberson and Seward each recorded a pair of hits, while Roberson picked up a game-high three RBIs. Crites, Menard, Daniel Midyett and Seward each drove in a pair.

Southeastern pushed its Wednesday game against Alcorn State up to 2 p.m. in an effort to avoid potential bad weather.

Head coach Matt Riser enters the game with 99 career victories. A win over the Braves would make Riser the fastest to 100 in program history, needing just 148 games to achieve the milestone.

The game is a Cane's Challenge contest. If the Lions score four runs or more, fans can take their game ticket or student coupon to their local Raising Cane's to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
