NEW ORLEANS, La. – Southeastern Louisiana will return to the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament for a third straight season following a five-set win Saturday at New Orleans, 18-25, 25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9.
The Lady Lions (7-22, 6-10 Southland) win, coupled with losses by Lamar (6-22, 6-10 Southland) and McNeese (10-20, 6-10 Southland), forced a three-way tie for the final two spots in the tournament. The top eight eligible teams qualify for the Southland's postseason event, Nov. 18-20, in Conway, Arkansas.
Southeastern rallied from a sluggish start to take the second and third sets over the Privateers (5-25, 1-15 Southland). After UNO forced a deciding fifth set, the Lady Lions jumped out to an early advantage in the final set and cruised to the win.
Madi Odom, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, tied her career high with 18 kills and tallied 19 digs. It was her eighth double-double of the season.
Chloee Holden, a freshman from Alvin, Texas, chipped in 13 kills and
Landry Bullock, a senior from Spring, Texas, added 12 kills for the Lady Lions. Bullock, now with 898 career kills, ranks 10th on Southeastern's all-time kills list. She needs 11 more kills to move into ninth place.
Haley Baker, a sophomore from Elkton, Maryland, handed out 47 assists to direct the Lady Lion offensive attack. She also picked up 10 digs, giving her a double-double for the eighth time this season.
With two solo blocks, and four total blocks overall, senior
Rachael Bunn also continues to climb the school record charts. The middle blocker from San Juan Capistrano, California, is now tied with Courtney Donald and former teammate
Veronica Turk for ninth in solo blocks (41). She is third in block assists (271) and also moved into third place in total blocks (312).
Macey Stock, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, led Southeastern with a career-high 25 digs.
Jordan Yauch (12) and Kaitlyn Grice (11) posted double-digit kill totals for UNO and Sarah Thomas dished out 39 assists. Yauch also picked up 11 digs for a double-double.
Grice had a hand in eight of the Privateers' 12 team blocks while Samantha Uline added 11 digs.
Southeastern will be the seventh seed and face No. 2-seeded Stephen F. Austin in the tournament's first match. The contest is slated for 11 a.m. Friday at Central Arkansas' Farris Center.
