COLUMBIA, S.C. – Southeastern Louisiana dropped its season-opening match in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-12, to host South Carolina in the Gamecock Invitational presented by Hyatt Place.
Southeastern (0-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first set, but the Gamecocks (1-0) used a 9-1 run to take a sizable lead. Clawing back, the Lady Lions narrowed the deficit to 12-10 before South Carolina pulled away to take the set.

Mikayla Shippy. South Carolina rallied once again, carrying its momentum into the third set.
Landry Bullock led Southeastern with 10 kills. Shippy handed out 17 assists and freshman
Haley Baker dished out an additional seven in her collegiate debut. Ramon's 10 digs led the Lady Lions. Brook Balser chipped in nine and freshman
Macey Stock added seven digs.
South Carolina's Dessaa Legros led all players with 12 kills. Aubrey Ezell, who recorded a double-double, contributed 30 assists to the Gamecock offensive attack. Ezell also led all players with 13 digs while Joely Cabrera added 12.
In other action on the first day of the tournament, North Carolina State swept past North Carolina Central in three sets, 25-16, 25-14, 25-17.
Southeastern faces N.C. State (1-0), Saturday at 9 a.m. (CDT), and North Carolina Central (0-1), Saturday at 3 p.m. (CDT), to wrap up its participation in the two-day tournament.
