Lion Hoops Wraps Up Regular Season

SLU travels to UNO, hosts Nicholls

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball squad wraps up the regular season with a pair of Southland Conference games at the University of New Orleans and at home against Nicholls State.

Southeastern (9-20, 6-10 Southland) and the Privateers (9-16, 5-11 Southland) tip at 7:45 p.m. Thursday as the second half of a doubleheader featuring the Lady Lion and UNO squads. The Lions and Nicholls (8-18, 5-11 Southland) face off at 7 p.m. Saturday at the University Center as the second half of a Senior Day doubleheader.

All of the games can be heard in the Hammond, Louisiana, area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Live statistics will be provided for both contests, as will streaming video on LionVision (subscription required) for the Nicholls State game. Southeastern shaved 19 points off Northwestern State's game-high 20 point lead in the second half Monday, but it wasn't enough as the Lions fell by a score of 92-79 in conference play at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

DeVonte Upson (10.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Cedric Jenkins (9.1 ppg) and Onochie Ochie (8.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg) lead Southeastern on offense. The Lions are shooting 45.9 percent from the floor (729-of-1,589), 31.3 percent from three-point range (171-of-546) and 66.6 percent on free throws (349-of-524). Southeastern is averaging 68.2 points and 33.1 rebounds per game.

UNO dropped an 89-79 decision in Southland play this past Monday to Nicholls.

Christavious Gill (12.8 ppg), Kevin Hill (10.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and Kevin Brown (10.4 ppg) are the Privateers' top offensive weapons. UNO is shooting 43.9 percent from the floor (601-of-1,369), 32.6 percent from three-point range (98-of-301) and 68.2 percent on free throws (459-of-673). The Privateers are averaging 70.4 points and 34.8 rebounds per game.

Nicholls is led by T.J. Carpenter (11.3 ppg) and Ja'Dante' Frye (10.1 ppg). Sam McBeath averages a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game. The Colonels are shooting 43.1 percent from the floor (592-of-1,374), 28.8 percent from three-point range (128-of-445) and 61.9 percent on free throws (346-of-559). Nicholls is averaging 63.8 points and 33.6 rebounds per game.

Tickets for admission to both halves of Saturday's doubleheader are available for purchase on game day at the University Center box office. The University Center box office opens one hour prior to tipoff.

Courtside Top Cat seats are $25 for an individual game. General admission tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children (age 3-12). Doubleheader prices are $35 for Top Cat seats, $10 for adult general admission and $7 for youth general admission. Southeastern students will be admitted free with a valid university ID card.
