HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team managed just 18 points after halftime, as Central Arkansas pulled away for a 60-48 victory over the Lady Lions on Wednesday night in the University Center.
Southeastern (7-13, 3-6 Southland) was unable to move up in the league standings in its final game of a four-game home stand. Behind 25 points from sophomore guard Maggie Profitt, UCA improved to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in Southland play.
Junior forward
Nanna Pool led Southeastern with her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard
Symone Miller, playing for the first time since Dec. 29 after missing the previous eight games, added 11 points for SLU, while senior guard
Elizabeth Styles chipped in with a game-high four assists.
Proffitt was the only UCA player in double figures, netting 10-of-23 shots from the field. Senior forward Terai Sadler (eight rebounds) and Proffitt (seven rebounds) helped the Sugar Bears finish with a 39-30 rebounding advantage.
The first half was evenly played with neither team leading by more than seven points. Behind eight points from Pool, the Lady Lions went into the break trailing just 33-30.
SLU could not get a shot to fall in the second half, as UCA held the Lady Lions without a field goal for the first 12:31 of the final period. By the time, SLU senior forward
Jameika Hoskins banked in a jumper for the team's first bucket of the half, UCA had built a 49-36 lead with 7:29 remaining.
Southeastern would only briefly cut the lead to single digits down the stretch. The Lady Lions would get no closer than nine, as UCA held SLU to 17.3 percent (4-for-23) field goal shooting after halftime.
On Saturday, SLU will start a stretch of three consecutive road games. The Lady Lions will head to Abilene, Texas for a 2 p.m. Southland contest versus Abilene Christian. The game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at
