ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington pitcher Chad Nack surrendered one hit through seven innings Friday at Clay Gould Ballpark as the Mavericks shutout Southeastern Louisiana, 7-0, to wrap up day one of the UTA Hilton Invitational.

Southeastern (4-2) picked up just two hits in the game, a third inning single by Brett Hoffman and a pinch hit single by Kennon Menard in the ninth inning.

UTA (2-3) generated all the offense it would need in the first on a two-run home run off the bat of first baseman Levi Scott. Lion starting pitcher Tate Scioneaux (0-1) hit third baseman RJ Williams with a pitch two batters before Scott's homer to right field.

The Mavericks touched up Scioneaux for four more runs in the third inning. The junior from Reserve, Louisiana, suffered the loss, allowing six runs in six innings of work.

Nack (1-0) picked up the win, fanning four in seven scoreless innings. UTA, a former member of the Southland Conference, has now won its last two games against Southeastern.

Saturday the Lions will send junior right-hander Jake Johnson (1-0, 0.00), a transfer from Neosho County (Ks.) C.C, to the mound against Houston Baptist (4-1) and southpaw Matthew McCullough (1-0, 0.00). It will be a non-conference matchup for the two Southland foes.
