LAKE CHARLES, La. – Southeastern Louisiana led by one at the half Monday, but could not hold on to the lead in the second half as McNeese State snapped the Lions' three-game Southland Conference winning streak by a score of 74-69 at Burton Coliseum.
Southeastern (8-17, 5-7 Southland) led by as much as 10 points in the first half, after a 24-9 run that wrapped up at the 9:42 mark, but McNeese (10-14, 4-9 Southland) chipped away at the lead with a 9-0 run of its own that made the score 26-25 Southeastern with 6:34 remaining until the half.
In the second half the Lions never trailed by more than five points, tying the game, 66-66, with 1:52 to play.
Cedric Jenkins led the Lions with 18 points.
Zay Jackson picked up the first double-double of his career, narrowly missing a triple-double, with 15 points, a career-best 10 rebounds and tying a career high with nine assists.
Onochie Ochie added 12 points.
Southeastern shot 46.2 percent from the floor (24-of-52), including 37.5 percent from three-point range (9-of-24). The Lions converted 12-of-24 from the free throw line (50 percent).
Desharick Guidry also turned in a double-double with a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jamaya Burr added 17 points for the Cowboys, and dished out nine assists, while Lance Potier chipped in 12 points.
McNeese shot 50 percent from the floor (27-of-54), including 38.9 percent from three-point range (7-of-18). The Cowboys converted 13-of-20 from the free throw line (65 percent) and out-rebounded the Lions, 38-30.
Southeastern is running a ticket promotion for the Lions' upcoming home game against Abilene Christian (9-16, 3-9 Southland). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Anyone who purchases a ticket to the Southeastern-Tulane baseball game, scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, will receive free admission to the joint women's-men's basketball doubleheader Saturday at the University Center by presenting their baseball ticket stub.
