LINCOLN, Neb. – Fighting back from a rough first half, Southeastern Louisiana came up short Sunday at Nebraska, 92-65, in the Lions' first game in the Barclays Center Classic.
Nebraska (3-1) took advantage of a cold-shooting Southeastern (1-3) squad in the first half to build a 53-16 lead at halftime. The Lions shot just under 26 percent (7-of-27) in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, Southeastern outscored the Huskers by 10, 49-39, and ended the game on a 25-6 run to shave 19 points off the deficit.
Dimi Cook, a freshman from Gulfport, Mississippi, led all players with 16 points.
Mo Greenwood, a freshman from Sharon, Mississippi, chipped in 12 points and
James Currington, a sophomore from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, added 11 points.
Dominic Nelson, a junior from Harlem, New York, hauled in a game-high seven rebounds.
Southeastern shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the floor, failing to hit on 14 attempts from 3-point range. The Lions were 17-of-25 (68 percent) from the free throw line.
Glynn Watson, Jr., led the Huskers with 14 points. Tai Webster (13), Ed Morrow, Jr. (11), Michael Jacobson (11), Benny Parker (10) joined Watson in double-figure scoring. Jacobson and Shavon Shields each grabbed seven rebounds.
Nebraska shot 46.4 percent (32-of-69) from the floor, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from 3-point range. The Huskers were 22-of-32 (68.8 percent) from the free throw line and out-rebounded Southeastern, 52-31.
Southeastern's week-long trip to compete in the Barclays Center Classic takes the Lions next to Cincinnati for a 6 p.m. (CT) contest Tuesday and finally to West Point, New York, for a pair of games.
