Â
Despite the loss, Southeastern head coach
Yolanda Moore said there were a number of positives she took take away from the game.
Â
"I like the way we fought and we got a great game from
Peaches Anderson," Moore said. "She did exactly what we needed her to do. She had 20 points and six rebounds and she really stepped up and shot the ball. She took command at the point guard position which is what we needed from her."
Â
Southeastern shot 33.9 percent for the game, including 9-of-24 on 3-pointers.Senior forward
Nanna Pool added eight rebounds while freshman forward
Kyle Felton grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in her collegiate debut. But Arkansas took advantage of foul trouble by the Lady Lion post players to out-rebound Southeastern 59-34 while having a 58-16 scoring advantage in the paint. Felton fouled out while Pool and forward
Chey Stewart both finished with four fouls.
Â
"We've got to adjust with the way they are calling the game now with the rule changes," Moore said. "We have to go re-teach some things as regard to guarding in the post because we got a lot of fouls called early on our post players. We'll have to adjust but I know that will change as the seasons goes along. But I was pleased with the effort and with the fight that they showed."
Â
Jackson finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Razorbacks (1-0). Center Alecia Cooley just missed a double-double with a team-high 15 points to go with nine rebounds. Guard Kelsey Brooks added 11 points, eight assists and five steals while guard Malica Monk had 10 points. Arkansas had 10 steals and forced 27 turnovers.Â

A pair of 3s by Brooks gave Arkansas an 8-0 lead with 7:34 left in the first quarter. Anderson got Southeastern on the board with a 3 with 7:16 remaining. Another 3 by Anderson off an assist from
Taylin Underwood pulled the Lady Lions to within 10-6 at the 6:08 mark but the Razorbacks answered with a 6-0 run. A Stewart layup made it 16-8 with 2:50 but Arkansas closed the quarter on an 11-3 run, taking a 27-10 lead at the end of the quarter on a pair of Monk free throws with 30 seconds left.
