Lady Lions Make Quick Work Of Southern In Home Opener

Hartley leads the way with first career double-double

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team quickly dispatched of Southern, 25-4, 25-23, 25-9, for a three-set win Tuesday in its 2014 home opener at the University Center.

Southeastern (2-2) was led by sophomore Parrie Hartley, who recorded the first double-double of her career with 16 kills and 13 digs. The Lady Lions posted a .354 attack percentage as a team and held Southern (1-4) to .010 on the attack.

Dominating out of the gate, Southeastern rattled off seven-straight points to open the first set and eventually built a 13-1 advantage on the serving of Mikayla Shippy and Hartley.

Southern's best offensive effort (.167 attack percentage) came during the second set as they forced the Lady Lions into a tight contest. Southeastern held off the Lady Jaguars and rebounded in the third set with its best offensive effort (.458 attack percentage) of the night, leaving little doubt as to the eventual outcome. All 14 members of the squad saw game action against Southern.

Hartley led all players in kills, hitting a career-best .500 over the course of the match, while Shippy handed out 27 assists. Morgan Todd led all players with 20 digs. Shippy (three), Hartley (two), Morgan Miller (two) and Tiffany Thomas (one) all served up aces for the Lady Lions.

Marisol Macias led Southern's offensive attack with eight kills and Phalen Clark dished out 20 assists. Diamond Williams posted 14 digs to lead the Lady Jaguars.

Southeastern returns to the road this coming weekend, facing George Washington, host James Madison and Hampton at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
