Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team claimed the third set, but Florida Atlantic's offense was too much to overcome in a 25-14, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16, loss to the Owls in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Southeastern (2-7) turned in its best offensive effort during the second and third sets, combining to hit .160 for the match. FAU (6-3), which defeated the Lady Lions for the second-consecutive season, turned in a .216 team attack percentage.
Tiffany Thomas (12 kills, .333 attack percentage),
Landry Bullock (nine kills) and
Mikayla Shippy (38 assists) paced the Lady Lion offensive effort. Shippy and
Brooke Balser each served up an ace.
Southeastern posted eight blocks as a team with
Rachael Bunn and Veronic Turk each having a hand in half of them. Libero
Morgan Todd led all players with 25 digs and Shippy chipped in 11 for her first double-double of the season.
Brittany Brown (15 kills) led three Owls in double-digit kills, including Kristina Rankovic (13 kills) and Katarina Stepanovic (13 kills). Genesis Viera handed out a match-high 45 assists while Nicole Unger served up five aces in the four-set contest.
Nathalie Rosado led FAU with 24 digs and Rankovic added 11, to go with her 13 kills, for a double-double.
The Lady Lions wrap up their participation in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic with a 10 a.m. match Saturday against Howard, prior to Southeastern's 7 p.m. football game at Tulane in Yulman Stadium.
