Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team dropped a 71-54 decision in Southland Conference play Thursday at Johnson Coliseum to Sam Houston State.
Five different players scored a game-high 11 points in the contest, including
Antonnio Benton,
Dre Evans and
Onochie Ochie for Southeastern (11-17, 6-11 Southland). Senior guard
Jeffery Ricard, a native of Plaquemine, La., added nine points to the Lions' offensive efforts.
Dakarai Henderson and Kaheem Ransom scored 11 points for Sam Houston (20-9, 12-5 Southland). Michael Holyfield grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds as the Bearkats out-rebounded Southeastern, 37-21.
Sam Houston converted 28-of-57 shot from the floor (49.1 percent) while the Lions hit on 18-of-43 shots (41.9 percent).
Southeastern's final regular-season contest, Saturday at the Montagne Center against Lamar (4-25, 3-14 Southland), is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will follow the Lady Lions' game as part of doubleheader action.

With Central Arkansas' 119-102 loss Thursday at Northwestern State, the Lions can clinch the eighth, and final, seed in the 2014 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament with either a win at Lamar or Bears loss at Stephen F. Austin.

The men's tournament gets underway Wednesday, March 12 with first-round games at 5 and 7:30 p.m., CT. Men's second-round games will be played Thursday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. and the semifinal games will be played Friday at 5 and 7:30 p.m. The men's championship game will be played Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and be televised on ESPN2.
The winners of the conference men's tournament will earn the Southland Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA tournaments. The NCAA Men's Final Four will be held April 5 and 7 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
