HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball squad remains undefeated at the University Center this season with an 81-71 win over Winthrop Friday.

A balanced offensive attack paced Southeastern (3-8) to its second win in as many homes, with five players scoring in double figures. The loss, Winthrop's fourth in five games, dropped the Eagles to 4-6 this season.

The game was tight through most of the first half with the lead changing hands five times over a seven minute stretch. DeVonte Upson pulled up for a jumper at the 4:30 mark, giving the Lions a 31-30 lead.

Southeastern would stretch the advantage into double digits, holding a 44-32 lead at the half.

The Lions would go up by 19 in the second half. Onochie Ochie drilled a jumper with 15:11 remaining in the contest, but Winthrop slowly started to cut away at the deficit.

Keon Johnson capped an 8-0 run by the Eagles with a three-pointer at the 6:35 mark, bringing Winthrop within 65-63. The Lions responded with a 10-0 run, pushing their lead back to double digits.

Joshua Filmore and Upson scored 15 points apiece for the Lions. Daniel Grieves and Ochie each contributed 14, and Zay Jackson added 13 points. Jackson also dished out a career-high seven assists. Daniel Grieves led all players with seven rebounds.

Southeastern shot 56.6 percent (30-of-53) from the floor, including 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from three-point range. The Lions were 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from the free throw line and out-rebounded Winthrop, 29-27.

Keon Moore led all players with 16 points and Andre Smith chipped in 10 for the Eagles. Tevin Prescott hauled in six boards.

Winthrop shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the floor, including 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from beyond the arc. The Eagles converted 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the charity stripe.

The Lions now head to Florida, squeezing in a pair of games before Christmas. Southeastern plays at Central Florida, Monday at 6 p.m., and South Florida, Tuesday at noon.
