HAMMOND, La. – Avoiding a sweep in Southeastern Louisiana's Heart of a Lion Fall World Series, the Backdoor Sliders scored early and often Wednesday on its way to a 13-6 victory in game five at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
The Backdoor Sliders (1-4) scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth before the Shick Show (4-1) pushed across its first run of the game.
Kyle Cedotal,
Kennon Menard, Julian Service and
Jacob Seward all turned in multi-hit games for the Backdoor Sliders. Cedotal finished the night 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Menard, Service and Seward scored three runs apiece.
Gabe Von Rosenberg (1-1) was strong early, shutting down the Shick Show into the fourth.
Daniel Midyett led off the inning with a single to right field and later scored on a two-out double to center by
Kevin Carr.
Von Rosenberg, a junior from Zachary, Louisiana, earned the win for the Backdoor Sliders. Jake Johnson (1-1) was tagged with the loss. Despite little help on defense, he fanned eight batters in three innings of work.
Ryan Byers, who had another strong fall performance, finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. He was the only member of the Shick Show to finish the contest with a multi-hit performance.
