Lady Lions Return To Southland Tournament

SLU faces defending tournament champ Central Arkansas

NATCHITOCHES, La. – All-Conference libero Morgan Todd leads Southeastern Louisiana into a first round Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament matchup against Central Arkansas, the defending tournament champion, at 11 a.m. Friday in Prather Coliseum.

Links for live stats, audio and video are available on the volleyball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (11-17) enters the tournament as the seventh seed after compiling an 8-8 regular season conference record.

The Lady Lions will be making their fifth tournament appearance and will be searching for their first Southland tournament win. Southeastern missed out on the tournament last year after a quarterfinal exit in the 2012 tournament.

Last year's conference tournament champion Central Arkansas (18-11) claimed the No. 2 seed after finishing off the regular season with a 13-3 league record.

The Sugar Bears have won both the regular season and tournament titles the past two years and have played in the tournament's championship match three of the past four years. Earning an undefeated 18-0 conference record last season, Central Arkansas has lost only six conference matches over the past three seasons combined.

Sarah Friedman (2.45 k/set), Tiffany Thomas (2.23 k/set), Parrie Hartley (2.06 kills per set) and Mikayla Shippy (8.81 assists per set) are leading the way for Southeastern offensively. Rachael Bunn is the team leader in blocks (0.99 b/set) and Todd is third in the Southland with 5.12 digs per set.

Heather Schnars, the conference player of the year, leads the Sugar Bears in kills (4.19 per set). Kristine Hjembo (8.96 a/set) and Amy South (10.45 a/set) have split the setting duties this season, while Shelbee Berringer (4.52 d/set) anchors the defense.
