Lady Lions Knock Off McNeese State In Four Sets

Southeastern picks up fourth win in last six matches

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team defeated in-state rival McNeese State, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-17, in a Southland Conference match Tuesday at the University Center.

Led by a career-high 18 kills from sophomore Landry Bullock, Southeastern's offense got stronger as the match wore on, posting attack percentages of .182, .242, .302 and .381 in the individual sets.

The Lady Lions (6-11, 3-2 Southland) have now won four of their last six matches.

After dropping the first set, Southeastern raced out to an 11-3 lead in the second. During the second-set run, libero Morgan Todd served up two of her three aces in the match. The three aces tie a career high last achieved in 2013 against Jackson State (Nov. 5).

Bullock (.410 attack percentage), Veronica Turk (15 kills, .355), Parrie Hartley (12 kills) and Mikayla Shippy (53 assists) paced a Lady Lion offense that hit at a .278 clip. Shippy tied a season high in assists, falling three shy of setting a career best.

Todd recorded 23 digs to anchor the back row. Brooke Balser and Kacey Freeman each chipped in 12, with Freeman tying a career high.

McNeese (10-10, 1-4 Southland) was led by Amber Fryer (14 kills), Maegan Carlton (10 kills), Rebecca Korenek (10 kills) and Kelly Graham (41 assists) on offense. Malina Sanchez led all players with 25 digs while Adison Giambrone (14) and Kara Rockey (11) both reached double digits.

Southeastern closes out a three-match homestand Saturday with a 2 p.m. contest at the University Center against the University of New Orleans.
