Volleyball To Take Part In Memphis Invitational

Lady Lions open four-game road trip

MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team returns to action this weekend with three matches at the Memphis Invitational.

Southeastern (1-3) faces Western Carolina (3-1) at 10 a.m. Friday in the tournament's opening contest. The Lady Lions return to the court at 4 p.m. to face Alabama A&M (0-3). Host Memphis (2-1) is Southeastern's final opponent, with the match scheduled for Saturday at noon.

Live stats and a video stream will be available for all matches in the tournament, courtesy Memphis, with Friday's matches streamed for free. Links to stats and video can be found on the volleyball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Sophomore Tiffany Thomas (2.31 kills per set), as well as freshmen Rachael Bunn (1.86 k/set) and Landry Bullock (1.71 k/set), lead the Lady Lion offense, while setter Mikayla Shippy dishes out 7.43 assists per set.

Bullock (1.36 blocks per set), Elizabeth Ramee (0.88 b/set) and Bunn (0.86 b/set) are Southeastern's top blockers, while Morgan Todd (3.67 digs per set), Brooke Balser (3.07 d/set) and Shippy (2.00 d/set) lead the defensive effort along the back row.

Southeastern dropped a 3-1 decision Tuesday to Tulane while Western Carolina dropped the final match in its own tournament last weekend to UNC Asheville.

The Catamounts are led by Caitlin Piechota (3.29 k/set, 3.59 d/set), Jordan Timmerman (2.79 k/set, 2.57 d/set), Cristina Nazario (9.71 a/set, 2.36 d/set), Addy George (1.57 b/set), Nicole Ford (1.30 b/set) and Morgan Cochran (5.93 d/set).

A&M, which was swept in three matches at the Purdue Tournament, is led by Leslie Epke (2.56 k/set) and Ashley Forman (5.44 a/set, 2.00 d/set). The Lady Lions are 1-2 all-time against the Bulldogs.

Memphis, in its first season competing in the new American Athletic Conference, defeated Gardner-Webb and tournament-host Belmont last weekend. Catlin Lilly (3.83 k/set, 2.92 d/set), Sydni Etheredge (2.83 k/set), Lauren Hawkins (2.50 k/set), Viktorija Teivane (2.25 k/set, 4.17 d/set) and Veronica Zimmerman (10.83 a/set) are the top offensive threats for the Lady Tigers. Aleksandra Petronijevic (6.67 d/set) anchors the back row.

Southeastern stays on the road to finish off a four-game road swing Tuesday at Southern Miss.
