HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team dropped its home opener Tuesday to Tulane, 3-1.
Southeastern (1-3) won the first set, 25-21, behind the play of Brooke Balser, Landry Bullock and Morgan Todd. Bullock recorded six kills without an error. Balser served up a pair of aces, and chipped in an assist and four digs, while Todd rattled off three service aces and recorded eight digs.
After dropping the first set, Tulane (4-0) righted its offensive ship to stay undefeated in 2013. The Green Wave posted a .299 attack percentage for the match despite hitting .158 in the first set. Tulane won the final three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-12, 25-11.
Annie Shurtz (15 kills, 12 digs) and Tea Juric (10 kills, 15 digs) each posted a double-double while Cori Martone chipped in 15 kills. Setter Mel Mandelbaum dished out 45 assists. Grace Weaver added 24 assists to the defensive effort.
Bullock led the Lady Lions with 13 kills while Mikayla Shippy dished out 30 assists. Todd (18) and Balser (16) each posted double-digit digs.
Southeastern returns to action Friday at 10 a.m. against Western Carolina in the Memphis Invitational.
