Lady Lions Host Pair Of Southland Powerhouses

Defending conference champs Central Arkansas opens home stretch

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team returns home Thursday to open a two-game stretch in Southland Conference play at the University Center.

Southeastern (6-8, 0-2 Southland) faces defending conference champ Central Arkansas (10-3, 2-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday and Oral Roberts (10-2, 2-0 Southland) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Lady Lion offense is led by Tiffany Thomas (3.50 kills per set), Rachael Bunn (.380 attack percentage) and Mikayala Shippy (9.61 assists per set). Bunn is second in the Southland in attack percentage while Thomas is fifth in kills. Shippy is sixth in assists. As a team Southeastern has compiled a .165 attack percentage, good for ninth in the 14-team conference.

Landry Bullock (1.13 blocks per set), Bunn (0.85 b/set) and Morgan Todd (4.18 digs per set) lead one of the best defenses in the Southland. Southeastern is second in the conference in blocks (2.09/set) and fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.178). Bullock is second in blocks while Bunn is 10th. Todd is fifth in digs.

Southeastern dropped its last two matches, both Southland contests, this past weekend at Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin.

UCA owns the second-best offense in the conference (.260 attack percentage) and is led by Alicia Dittrich (.291), Heather Schnars (.281, 3.16 k/set) and defending Southland Player of the Week Jessica Nagy (2.98 k/set). Marissa Collins leads the Southland in assists (11.70/set).

Defensively, the Sugar Bears' opponents are hitting .175, fourth-best in the conference, while Shelbee Berringer is also fourth with 4.78 digs per set.

ORU possesses both the best attack percentage (.273) and opponent attack percentage (.169) in the conference. Jessica Pancratz (.372) is third, right behind Bunn, while Sara Pope (.304, 3.76 k/set) is also among the best in the Southland. Bruna Silva, the Golden Eagle libero, is third in the conference in digs (4.90/set).

Both UCA and ORU swept conference newcomers Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word this past weekend.

Southeastern returns to the road for a pair of Southland matchups next week as the Lady Lions travel to McNeese State (Oct. 3) and Nicholls State (Oct. 5).
