Box Score

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Falling short in its comeback bid, the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team dropped a hard-fought, five-set match Thursday at Northwestern State to open Southland Conference play.

Southeastern (6-7, 0-1 Southland) struggled early, falling 25-11 in the first set, but battled back with 27-25 and 25-21 wins in the second and fourth sets. The third set, just as close, went Northwestern State's way, 29-27. The Lady Demons took the final set, 15-8, on the strength of a quick start.

Freshman Landry Bullock (13 kills), sophomore Tiffany Thomas (12 kills) and junior Elizabeth Ramee (12 kills) led the offensive attack with the help of Mikayla Shippy (45 assists). Shippy recorded a double-double, posting 11 digs to go with her assist total.

Morgan Todd (15 digs) led four Lady Lions with double-digit digs, including Brooke Balser (11 digs) and Cherish Krohn (11 digs). Southeastern tallied 11 team blocks, led by Bullock's six (three solo) and Veronica Turk's five total blocks.

Northwestern State (4-8, 1-0 Southland) was led by Caiti O'Connell (17 kills), Ashley Elrod (12 kills, 14 digs), Emily Johnson (28 assists) and Keelie Arneson (30 digs).

Southeastern returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stephen F. Austin (9-4, 1-0 Southland). The Ladyjacks lead the all-time series with Southeastern, 29-4, but the Lady Lions swept the season series last year. SFA is coming off a three-set sweep Thursday over Southland-newcomer New Orleans (2-11, 0-1 Southland).

Following the road swing, Southeastern returns home to host a pair of conference matches against Central Arkansas (Sept. 26) and Oral Roberts (Sept. 28).
