Lady Lions Drop Final Volleyball Match At FAU Invitational

Southeastern home opener slated for 7 p.m. Tuesday against Tulane

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team dropped its final match Saturday at the FAU Invitational, 3-1, to Jacksonville.

After coming up on the short end of tight first set, 25-21, Southeastern (1-2) pulled away late for a 25-17 second-set win. Jacksonville (3-0) dispatched the Lady Lions by scores of 25-9 and 25-15 in the final two sets to take the match.

In the second set, Southeastern built an 11-8 lead on a Jacksonville attack error by Kylie Jacob and then pushed the lead to five. After Jacksonville later cut the lead to 20-17, the Lady Lions regained the momentum on a kill by sophomore Tiffany Thomas.

Morgan Todd then padded the lead by two with consecutive service aces. A Thomas kill sent Southeastern to set point which was achieved on an attack error by Jacksonville's Emily Laskelle.

Thomas led the Lady Lions with six kills. Rachael Bunn, Landry Bullock and Shelby Devlin recorded five kills apiece. Mikayla Shippy dished out 25 assists while fellow sophomores Brooke Balser (17 digs) and Todd (16 digs) posted career highs in digs. Bullock tallied nine total blocks as Southeastern recorded 12 as a team.

Bunn and Thomas were named to the All-Tournament team. They joined Bethune-Cookman's Rhea Turner and Lauren Turner, host Florida Atlantic's Alessia Pizzoccheri and Jennifer St. Sume as well as Jacksonville's Kendall Courtney, Alyssa Robinson and Sammi Strausbaugh. Courtney was named the tournament MVP.

Southeastern returns home Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match against Tulane in the University Center. All home volleyball matches this season are free to the public.
