Volleyball Opens Season At FAU Invitational

Live stats available for all three Southeastern matches

The 2013 Lady Lion volleyball team
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team opens its 2013 season on the road as it travels to Florida Atlantic to compete in the FAU Invitational.

Southeastern will play three games over a two-day span at the tournament. Friday, the Lady Lions open up at 11:30 a.m. against host Florida Atlantic (7-19 in 2012) before turning around to face Bethune-Cookman (5-28 in 2012) later in the day at 3:30 p.m. Coach Jim Smoot's squad will finish up the tournament Saturday at noon against Jacksonville (10-24 in 2012).

Live stats will be available for all matches during the tournament and streaming video of Southeastern's contest against FAU is available for purchase from the Owls. All links can be found on the volleyball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Coming off a season in which they more than doubled their previous year's overall and Southland Conference win total, the Lady Lions look to improve upon 2012's 11-19 (5-13 Southland) effort.

Senior Megan McMillin, an honorable mention for the Southland's All-Conference team last season, returns as the leader on defense. In 2012 she finished fifth in the conference in digs (4.10 per set).

The Lady Lions are in their first season under Smoot who owns more than 20 years of collegiate head coaching experience, including a pair of trips to the NCAA Divison I Men's Final Four while at the helm of the Ohio State program.

Southeastern returns to the University Center Tuesday to host Tulane at 7 p.m. in the 2013 home opener. All home volleyball matches this season are free to the public.
