LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a tight Southland Conference match Thursday at McNeese State, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22.

Despite leading for only stretch of the third set, Southeastern (6-11, 0-5 Southland) pushed McNeese (11-8, 4-2 Southland) to the wire.

Trailing by 10 late in the first set, the Lady Lions rattled off eight points in a row off Brooke Balser serves, including a pair of aces, to claw within 20-18. Down by five in the second set a Morgan Todd service ace aided Southeastern in narrowing the gap.

Parrie Hartley (11 kills), Landry Bullock (8 kills) and Mikayla Shippy (27 assists) led the Lady Lion offense. Bullock hit .263 while Hartley hit .214 to pace a Southeastern squad that combined to post a .101 attack percentage.

Rachael Bunn and Tiffany Thomas posted a pair of blocks each. Todd tallied 10 digs while Balser, Shippy and Cherish Krohn each contributed seven for Southeastern.

Malina Sanchez recorded 11 kills to lead the Cowgirls. Amber Fryer added nine kills and Vanessa Bentley handed out 32 assists.

Defensively Fryer posted seven total blocks and Rachel Cagnina contributed five. Kara Rockey recorded 14 digs for McNeese while Sanchez and Bentley added nine each.

Southeastern returns to action Saturday at Nicholls State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Stopher Gym.
