Southeastern Knocks Off UIW For Second-Consecutive Southland Win

McMillin moved into eight-place on all-time digs list

HAMMOND, La. – For the second-consecutive match the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team won an intense, five-set Southland Conference contest, knocking off Incarnate Word on homecoming Saturday, 23-25, 26-24, 13-25, 25-18, 15-13.

After splitting a pair of tight, offensive-minded sets, the Southeastern (9-16, 3-10 Southland) defense took control in the final two for the comeback win over UIW (10-10, 5-6 Southland).

Mikayla Shippy established a new career high with 55 assists and chipped in 12 digs for a double-double. Freshman Parrie Hartley (18 kills), Tiffany Thomas (14 kills), Landry Bullock (12 kills) and Rachael Bunn (nine kills, three service aces) combined to lead the Lady Lion offensive attack.

Morgan Todd (24 diggs), Megan McMillin (23 digs) and Brooke Balser (12 digs) combined with blockers Bunn (seven total blocks), Hartley (four tb), Thomas (three tb), Veronica Turk (three tb) and Bullock (two tb) shut down the UIW offense in the final two sets to help seal the win.

McMillin, who now has 1,161 digs in her career, moved past Southeastern great Anne Bauer into eighth place on the school's all-time digs list.

Shaina Garza led all players with 24 kills while Brittani Dear chipped in 12 kills for the Cardinals. The setting duo of Danielle Suarez (24 assists) and Taylor McClelland (19 assists) combined to guide the offense. Dear (24 digs) and Garza (14 digs) each recorded a double-double while Sarah Cardenas added 18 digs for UIW on defense.

Southeastern returns to the University Center floor in one week, hosting the University of New Orleans, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. in a conference contest.
