HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Wrapping up a three-match road swing, the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball squad dropped a hard-fought Southland Conference contest Saturday at Sam Houston State, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18.

A defensive struggle, the two teams combined for 21.5 total blocks and eight players with double-digit digs while just three offensive players were able to climb to double-digits in kills.

Southeastern (7-16, 1-10 Southland) took the second set, the first set it has taken from Sam Houston (12-7, 9-1 Southland) since a 3-2 Lady Lion win in 2008.

Sophomore libero Morgan Todd and freshman middle blocker Rachael Bunn led the Southeastern defensive effort, holding the Bearkats to a .169 attack percentage. Todd recorded a career-high 29 digs, leading all players, and Bunn posted five total blocks.

In addition to Todd's career performance, Brooke Balser (16), Cherish Krohn (12) and Megan McMillin posted double-digit digs while the Lady Lions recorded 10 total team blocks.

Tiffany Thomas led the Southeastern offense with 10 kills and freshman Morgan Miller handed out 32 assists.

Deveney Wells-Gibson (16 kills, 20 digs), Haley Neisler (12 kills, seven total blocks) and Tayler Gray (47 assists, 20 digs) paced the Sam Houston offense. Gray and Wells-Gibson each posted double-doubles to lead on the defensive side of the net as well. Breanna Homer (16 digs) and Morgan O'Brien (15 digs) also contributed to the defensive effort.

Southeastern returns home Oct. 24, opening a six-match homestand, with a conference contest against Abilene Christian.
