Houston Baptist Ekes Out Win Over Southeastern

Lady Lions host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. Saturday

HAMMOND, La. – Fighting to the final serve, the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team dropped a five-set Southland Conference match Thursday to Houston Baptist, 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 16-25, 15-10.

Despite statistically outplaying the Huskies, Southeastern (6-13, 0-7 Southland) dropped the first two sets. Rebounding, the Lady Lions dominated the third and fourth sets, but HBU (8-11, 3-4 Southland) vaulted out of the gate quickly in the fifth to hold off the late Southeastern surge.

Parrie Hartley posted a career-high 20 kills to lead all players while Tiffany Thomas added 17 and Landry Bullock chipped in 16 for the Lady Lions. Mikayla Shippy recorded a double-double for the second-consecutive match, dishing out 46 assists and recording 12 digs. Morgan Todd led five Southeastern players in double-digit digs with 24. Brooke Balser and Megan McMillin tallied 18 digs while Cherish Krohn contributed 11.

Four Huskies recorded double-digit kills, including Caiti Wenger (14), Bailey Keith (14), Madeline Gaffney (13) and Jessica Wooten (10). Setter Kayla Armer handed out 52 assists. Haley Hoffman led all players with 29 digs while Wooten added 19 for a double-double.

Southeastern will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-7, 6-1 Southland) at 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the home football game against Stephen F. Austin. AMCC defeated New Orleans, 3-1, Thursday.
