HAMMOND, La. — The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the 2012 Tangi Tourism Lion Classic.

Southeastern (3-4) swept a three-set decision against Texas-Pan American (1-8) early in the afternoon, but fell in four sets to Weber State (4-5) in the second-day finale.

The Lady Lions defeated UTPA, 25-20, 29-27, 25-22, to create their first winning streak of the season. Southeastern held the Broncs to a .101 attack percentage and recorded seven team blocks.

Senior Courtney Donald lead all players with 13 kills and posted a .407 attack percentage. Sophomore Zoe Douglas tied a career high with 8 kills and established a personal best with six blocks. Senior Becky Bekelja chipped in 29 assists in the Lady Lion victory.

Megan McMillin led all Southeastern defenders with 14 digs while Bekelja, Cherish Krohn and Morgan Todd all contributed nine apiece.

After a hard-fought second set that went down to the wire, the Lady Lions ran up an early lead in the final set against UTPA. Todd rattled off 11 points in a row, including a service ace, before the Broncs could break the rally. Even a pair of UTPA timeouts didn't faze the freshman from Mandeville, La.

The Broncs mounted an 11-3 rally of their own, but never got any closer than a three-point deficit the remainder of the set.

Against Weber State, Southeastern continued its strong play early. Southeastern took the first set, but dropped the match 25-21, 23-25, 25-27, 21-25.

Donald again led the way with her second match this season with at least 20 kills (20). Freshman Veronica Turk established a career high in kills with 14. Douglas added five more blocks and Bekelja chipped in a season-best 44 assists.

Three Lady Lions, McMillin (13), Todd (11) and Bekelja (11), contributed double-digit digs.

Weber State was led Rebecca Fuchs (18 kills, 12 digs), Maria Katoah (13 kills) and Audrey Biggs (10 kills).

In other day two action at the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic, Louisiana Tech took a pair of matches. The Lady Techsters took a four-set decision over UTPA and swept Southern in three. Weber State also swept Southern in three sets.

On the final day of the tournament, Southern kicks off the action against UTPA at 8 a.m. Weber State plays back-to-back matches against Louisiana Tech and UTPA while Southeastern rounds out the action at 2 p.m. against Louisiana Tech.
