HAMMOND, La. — The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team opens the home portion of its schedule with the Tangi Tourism Lion Classic Thursday through Saturday at the University Center.
Southeastern faces Southern at 7 p.m. Thursday in the only match of the tournament's first day. The Lady Lions face Texas Pan American (1 p.m.) and Weber State (5 p.m.) on Friday, before wrapping up the tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday against Louisiana Tech.

Victorious in the season opener against Alabama State, Southeastern (1-3) dropped its final three matches in the ISTAP Collegiate Cup. Senior
Courtney Donald was named to the all-tournament team after recording a career-best 23 kills against the host Hornets.
Since opening weekend, Hurricane Isaac postponed a mid-week home match against Grambling State until Oct. 9 and wiped out a trip to the Akron Invitational.

Southern (0-4), like the Lady Lions, has not played since the opening weekend of the season. The Lady Jags dropped all four matches they played at the Sheraton Airport/LA Boxing Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.
Jaquel Watts, a freshman middle blocker, leads Southern with 1.42 k/set. Setter Chanda Journet is averaging 3.17 a/set and is tied for the team lead in digs per set (1.83) with Michelle Williams and Keya Bennett.
UTPA (1-6) is led offensively by the duo of Diara Reynolds (2.27 k/set) and Krysta Freitas (2.20 k/set). Setter Nycole Masaki is averaging 7.97 a/set while libero Juri Franzen is the Broncs' leading defender (4.48 d/set).
The Broncs dropped all three matches this past weekend in Lubbock, Texas, at the Lone Star Showdown presented by Under Armour.
Weber State (2-5) dropped a three-set decision Tuesday at Utah Valley. Audrey Biggs (2.25 k/set) and Rebecca Fuchs (2.30) lead the Wildcats offensively while setter Caitlin Penrod averages 6.45 a/set. Libero Laurel Bodily (2.58 d/set) anchors the back row for Weber State.
Louisiana Tech (0-6) hosts Grambling State Wednesday in its home opener before making the trip to Hammond. Leading the way for the Lady Techsters on offense is Bridget Benditz (2.18 k/set) and setter Maria Coelho (8.09 a/set). Stephany Salas (3.50 d/set) and Clara Vido (2.62 d/set) are the leading defenders.
The 2012 Tangi Tourism Lion Classic is part of Green and Gold Week, a busy week on the Southeastern campus that includes a pair of home soccer matches and the football home opener.
