HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Sam Houston State Thursday at the University Center.
Southeastern (5-8, 1-4 Southland) dropped the sets, 25-20, 25-13, 25-21. The Lady Lions enterred the match second in the conference in attack percentage and bettered the mark with .214 team percentage.
Tamra Grayson recorded 11 kills (.417 attack percentage) and
Courtney Donald added 10 kills and two blocks to lead Southeastern.
The first set was tight early, with the scored tied at eight apiece, before Sam Houston State (7-9, 3-2 Southland) made its move. Three consecutive kills by Kendall Cleveland put the Bearkats on top for good. Cleveland tallied 11 of her match-leading 17 kills in the first set.
In the second set, Sam Houston State used four different multiple-point runs to put away the Lady Lions.
Grayson (five kills) and Donald (six kills) recorded the bulk of their kills in the third set, but it was too late to catch up with the Bearkats. Southeastern outhit Sam Houston State .344 to .286 in the set.
Cleveland and Deveny Wells-Gibson (15 kills) led the way for the Bearkats. Tayler Gray recorded 44 assists and Camille Alfaro posted 17 digs.
Becky Bekelja contributed 22 assists and eight digs, lending a hand on both the offensive and defensive sides.
Megan McMillin's 10 digs led the way for Southeastern and
Cherish Krohn contributed eight.
The Lady Lions return to the University Center court at 2 p.m. Saturday in a conference contest against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
