Lady Lions Return Home For Pair Of Southland Matches

Southeastern hosts Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

HAMMOND, La. – After spending last week on the road, the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team returns home for a pair of Southland Conference matches. The Lady Lions host Sam Houston State at 7 p.m. Thursday in the University Center.

Southeastern (5-7, 1-3 Southland) dropped a five-set decision last Saturday at preseason conference-favorite Central Arkansas.

Senior Courtney Donald (3.91 kills per set) is the Lady Lions' top offensive weapon. Second in the conference in kills (per set), she also leads the team with 31 total blocks.

Veronica Turk (2.53 k/set), Tamra Grayson (1.56 k/set), Shelby Devlin (1.48 k/set) and Becky Bekelja (9.16 assists per set) are also major contributors to the Southeastern offensive effort.

Junior libero Megan McMillin ranks fourth in the Southland with an average of 4.58 digs per set. Bekelja (2.29 d/set), Morgan Todd (2.09 d/set), Cherish Krohn (1.86 d/set) and Taylor Buckner (1.79 d/set) lend significant support on the defensive end.

Sam Houston State (6-9, 2-2 Southland) traveled to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this past Saturday and defeated the Islanders in straight sets.

Deveney Wells-Gibson leads the Bearkat offensive attack. Third in the conference, she averages 3.75 kills (per set). Other key offensive personnel include Kendall Cleveland (2.85 k/set), Kaylee Hawkins (2.26 k/set) and Tayler Gray (9.88 a/set).

Jamie Haas (3.81 d/set), Gray (3.46 d/set) and Wells-Gibson (2.96 d/set) anchor the defense while Kim Black leads the Southland in blocks (1.38 blocks per set).

Southeastern hosts the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. Saturday in the University Center.
