CONWAY, Ark. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team concludes a two-match swing through the states of Arkansas and Oklahoma Saturday with a Southland Conference contest at Central Arkansas.
First serve, now scheduled for 12 p.m., was moved up to accommodate the first 2012 conference football broadcast of the Southland TV Network. Live stats, courtesy Central Arkansas, will be available at www.LionSports.net. A video stream of the match is also available through Central Arkansas.
Southeastern (5-6, 1-2 Southland) dropped a four-set decision in conference action Thursday at Oral Roberts.
Courtney Donald (3.98 kills per set),
Veronica Turk (2.58 k/set),
Shelby Devlin (1.78 k/set) and
Tamra Grayson (1.53 k/set) are the Lady Lions top offensive threats. Setter
Becky Bekelja, an all-around threat, is averaging 9.40 assists per set as well as contributing 1.0 kills (per set) and 2.43 digs (per set).
Anchoring the back row is junior libero
Megan McMillin, averaging 4.68 digs (per set).
Morgan Todd (2.13 d/set),
Taylor Buckner (1.96 d/set) and
Cherish Krohn (1.84 d/set) are also key defensive contributors.
Central Arkansas (13-1, 2-1 Southland), the preseason conference favorite, swept Nicholls State Thursday in straight sets.
The Sugar Bears are led by the reigning Southland offensive player of the week Jessica Hays (4.71 k/set). Six other players average at least two kills per set. Setter Marissa Collins (12.70 a/set) entered the week second in Division I assists.
Shelbee Berringer (4.22 d/set), Hays (2.39 d/set) and Haether Schnars (2.15 d/set) lead the defensive effort for Central Arkansas.
Southeastern returns to the University Center at 7 p.m. Thursday for a Southland contest against Sam Houston State.
