TULSA, Okla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a four-set, Southland Conference contest Thursday at Oral Roberts.

Southeastern (5-6, 1-2 Southland) fell by scores of, 20-25, 30-28, 13-25, 16-25, to the Golden Eagles.

Courtney Donald recorded 13 kills to lead the Lady Lions. Veronica Turk had 12 kills and Tamra Grayson, in a return to her hometown, contributed 11 kills. Southeastern hit .129 as a team while Oral Roberts recorded a .283 attack percentage.

The first set was tight as neither team enjoyed more than a one-point lead until the Golden Eagles went up 17-15. After a Southeastern time out, Oral Roberts started to pull away.

In the second set, the Lady Lions fought back to take an early 7-4 lead on a kill from Donald. Oral Roberts took the lead on a four-point run, but Southeastern came right back with a three-point run of its own. There were six lead changes and 16 tie scores during the set. The Lady Lions picked up the winning point on a block by Turk and Cherish Krohn.

Oral Roberts saved their best offensive play for the final two sets, recording attack percentages of .500 and .429 to close out the match.

Sheina Fernandes led all players with 16 kills (.483 attack percentage) with Laura Rosa (11 kills), Kylie Johnson (nine kills) and Tatum Freeden (nine kills) lending a helping hand. Laura Taylor dished out 52 assists for the Golden Eagles and Bruna Silva recorded 32 digs. Oral Roberts recorded 13 team blocks.

For the Lady Lions, Becky Bekelja recorded a double-double (40 assists, 11 digs) while Megan McMillin (19 digs), Taylor Buckner (13 digs) and Morgan Todd (eight digs) also contributed heavily to the defensive effort. Krohn, McMillin and freshman Brooke Balser each recorded a service ace.

Southeastern returns to action Saturday at Central Arkansas to wrap up a two-match Southland Conference road trip. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
