Jim Yarbrough and the Lions face UTSA Wednesday in San Antonio, Texas
HAMMOND - The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to Southland Conference play on Wednesday when it heads west to face league rival UTSA at the UTSA Convocation Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.lionsports.net.

Southeastern (8-13, 2-7 SLC) looks to snap a three-game losing streak after suffering a heartbreaking 57-55 setback to Sam Houston State.

The Lions led by as many as nine points in the contest before SHSU rallied and scored the game-winning basket on Demarcus Gatlin's baseline jumper with 4.3 seconds left.

Todd Nelson scored a career-high 17 points to lead Southeastern with Roosevelt Johnson adding 16 and Jeremy Campbell 10. The Lions held a 39-30 advantage on the glass as Elgin Bailey grabbed a team-high seven.

Johnson leads Southeastern in points (9.8) and rebounds (7.1) with Bailey next in scoring (8.9) and rebounds (6.4). Daron Populist (7.9), Campbell (7.1), DeShawn Patterson (6.0) and Nelson (5.2) are next in scoring for the Lions, who average 59.4 points per game.

UTSA (14-9, 6-3 SLC) dropped an 80-66 decision at Lamar on Saturday despite 18 points from Jeromie Hill. The Roadrunners were outscored, 53-39, in the second half and committed 17 turnovers in the contest.

Melvin Johnson III leads UTSA in scoring at 14.2 points per game with Kannon Burrage adding 14.0 and Hill 12.9.

UTSA leads the all-time series, 15-14, and has won three of the last five meetings. Southeastern claimed a 79-73 victory in last year's matchup in the University Center.
