HAMMOND – Brandon Davis scored a game-high 21 points to lead three players in double figures and Lamar used a balanced attack to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 83-59, in a Southland Conference game on Wednesday at the University Center.
Anthony Miles added 19 points for Lamar (14-8, 5-3 SLC) while Devon Lamb posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Cardinals used a 14-3 run early in the first half that snapped a 7-7 tie and gave Lamar its second consecutive win in the University Center. Mike James and Vincenzo Nelson added nine points each for Lamar while Stan Brown added eight.
Davis, who scored 13 points in the opening half, gave Lamar the lead for good with a pair of free throws with 15:42 remaining. After a basket by
Elgin Bailey cut the lead to 11-9 at the 15:00 mark, Lamar would go on an 8-0 run that was capped by a steal and layup by Lamb that gave the Cardinals a 19-9 lead with 11:08 remaining.
Southeastern (8-12, 2-6 SLC), which suffered its biggest loss at home since a 69-45 setback to Sam Houston State in the 2006-07 season, closed the gap to 21-16 on a jumper by Bailey with 8:29 remaining in the half before Lamar answered with a 21-3 run, capped by two free throws by Donley Minor for a 42-19 lead with 1:57 left.
Lamar, which finished 30-for-59 (50.8 percent) from the floor overall, went 17-for-30 (56.7 percent) in the second half and built its lead to 79-48 on a Nelson basket with 4:37 remaining in the game.
Jeremy Campbell scored 14 points for Southeastern to lead three players in double figures. Bailey and
Daron Populist added 10 points each for the Lions, who shot 21-for-46 from the floor (45.7 percent) but committed 15 turnovers that led to a 26 points for Lamar.
