Lions Return From Christmas Break To Host Spring Hill College

Final non-conference tuneup for Lions before hosting Oral Roberts on Thursday

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team returns to action from a 10-day break for the Christmas holiday on Saturday when it plays host to Spring Hill College in the University Center.

Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. Fans can also listen to the game on the KSLU iPhone app and TuneIn Radio. A live video stream (subscription needed) is also available through www.LionSports.net.

Playing its final non-conference tuneup before opening Southland Conference action on Thursday against newcomer Oral Roberts, Southeastern (1-8) plays its first game since an 82-43 loss at No. 8 Florida on Dec. 19. The game against Spring Hill College, which will count as an exhibition for the Badgers, is Southeastern's first in the University Center since a 61-58 loss to Southeast Missouri on Dec. 1.

The Lions, who have faced a non-conference schedule that has included Florida along with Wisconsin, Marquette and New Mexico State, have dropped five consecutive games since a 91-49 victory over Louisiana College on Nov. 20.

Senior Brandon Fortenberry leads Southeastern in scoring at 11.9 points per game with Jeffery Ricard following at 9.2. Roosevelt Johnson (7.9 points) and Dre Evans (7.0) are next in scoring for the Lions, who average 56.8 points per game. Johnson, who missed the Florida game with a concussion, leads the Lions with 6.4 rebounds per game followed by Antonnio Benton (4.9), Fortenberry (4.7) and Jan Petrovcic (3.9).

Todd Martin and Alex Looney each lead NAIA-member Spring Hill College in scoring at 11.7 points per game. Brett Williams (9.8) and Frederick Gatson (8.2) are next in scoring for the Badgers, who face Southern on Friday and are 2-13 overall in non-NCAA contests.
