Lady Lions Host Nicholls State For Senior Day

Tournament seeding still up for grabs

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team, still battling for conference tournament seeding, hosts Southland Conference-foe Nicholls State Saturday, at 2 p.m., in the regular-season finale.

Four seniors, Becky Bekela, Taylor Buckner, Courtney Donald and Tamra Grayson, will be honored before the match in a Senior Day ceremony.

Leading the Lady Lion offense is Courtney Donald, ranked third in the Southland  Conference in kills (3.65 per set) and fifth in hitting percentage (.333). The senior middle blocker owns the sixth-best career attack percentage in school history. She also ranks among the best in Southeastern history in kills (7th), attempts (7th), solo blocks (9th), block assists (7th), total blocks (8th) and points (8th).

Veronica Turk (2.30 k/set), Tamra Grayson (1.66 k/set), Shelby Devlin (1.49 k/set) and Becky Bekelja (8.77 assists per set) are the other top offensive weapons for the Lady Lions.

Libero Megan McMillin ranks fifth in the Southland with 4.18 digs per set. Lending a helping hand on defense are Bekelja (2.24 d/set), Morgan Todd (2.06 d/set), Cherish Krohn (1.95 d/set) and Taylor Buckner (1.94 d/set). Donald (88 total blocks) and Devlin (79 tb) are Southeastern's top blockers.

The Lady Lions (11-17, 5-12 Southland) are tied with Nicholls State (10-18, 5-12 Southland) for seventh in the conference. The winner will receive the seventh seed in the Southland Volleyball Tournament, scheduled for Nov. 16-18 in Conway, Ark.

Jennifer Brandt (2.84 k/set) and Sarah Terry (2.32 k/set) lead the Colonels offense with help from Nancy Taylor (7.91 a/set). Jeanne Logarbo (3.31 d/set) anchors the back row with assistance from Brandt (2.64 d/set), Kathryn Stock (2.31 d/set) and Taylor (2.23 d/set).

Southeastern's first-round opponent in the Southland Conference Tournament will be determined based-upon the Lady Lions' seed. The seventh seed faces the second seed while the eighth seed faces the top-seeded team.

Sam Houston State and tournament-host Central Arkansas enter the final day of the regular season tied for first (UCA owns the tie breaker).
