Lady Lions Make Return Trip To McNeese State

Bekelja to face former team

Becky Bekelja, a senior transfer from McNeese State, faces her former team for the second time this season
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Fresh off an upset Southland Conference victory at Stephen F. Austin, the Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team wraps up a three-match road trip Tuesday with a 7 p.m. contest at McNeese State.

Leading the Lady Lion offense is Courtney Donald, ranked third in the conference in kills (3.90 per set) and hitting percentage (.369). The senior middle blocker owns the sixth-best career attack percentage in school history. She also ranks among the best in Southeastern history in kills (T-8th), block assists (7th), total blocks (10th) and points (10th).

Veronica Turk (2.37 k/set), Tamra Grayson (1.71 k/set), Shelby Devlin (1.65 k/set) and Becky Bekelja (9.10 assists per set) are the other top offensive weapons for the Lady Lions. Southeastern owns the second-best attack percentage (.194) in the conference.

Libero Megan McMillin ranks fifth in the Southland with 4.28 digs per set. Lending a helping hand on defense are Bekelja (2.41 d/set) and Cherish Krohn (2.00 d/set). Donald (59 total blocks) and Devlin (36 tb) are Southeastern's top blockers.

Southeastern (7-12, 2-7 Southland) is coming off its first win over SFA since 2003. McNeese State (6-16, 1-8 Southland) has lost its last four matches, all in conference play.

The Cowgirls top hitters are Megan Carlton (2.17 k/set), Amber Fryer (2.16 k/set) and Courtni Bauer (2.09 k/set). Kelly Graham leads the team in assists (8.41 per set).

Whitney Ellisor (3.32 d/set), Kimberlyn Patterson (2.47 d/set) and Malina Sanchez (2.12 d/set) anchor the back row for McNeese State. Bauer (62 tb) and Fryer (53 tb) are the team's top blockers.

After the McNeese State contest, six of the Lady Lions' final nine matches are at home. The stretch begins Thursday at 7 p.m. when Southeastern hosts Oral Roberts in its first ever trip to Hammond, La.
