MOBILE, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team dropped a pair of four-set matches as it closed out action on Saturday at the South Alabama Jaguar Classic at Jag Gym.
Southeastern dropped its opening match of the afternoon in a 25-22, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22 loss to Alabama State before falling 25-15, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 to unbeaten Samford.
The Lady Lions (1-7) return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Baton Rouge to face Southern University in a 7 p.m. contest at Seymour Gym.
ALABAMA STATE 3, SOUTHEASTERN 1
Karensa Beckford recorded a match-high 25 kills to lead AAMU (2-7), the defending SWAC champions, while Clairissa Moore added 14. Ashley Forman led the Bulldogs with 28 assists, Audrey Harris led the team with 18 digs with Riki Clark adding 10.
Kinsey Williams posted 11 kills to lead Southeastern while freshman
Elizabeth Ramee added nine.
Lindsey Young and
Paige Dollison added eight kills each for the Lady Lions, while Young added 24 assists and 10 digs.
Chelsea Barr led Southeastern with 18 digs and
Megan McMillin had 12.
SAMFORD 3, SOUTHEASTERN 1
Courtney Donald came off the bench to lead Southeastern with 10 kills while Dollison added nine behind a .450 average at the net. Freshman
Zoe Douglas collected a season-high four kills for the Lady Lions, who finished with a .165 hitting percentage.
Samford (7-0), a former rival of Southeastern when both schools were in the Trans America Athletic Conference (now Atlantic Sun), was led by Elizabeth Neisler with 17 kills followed by Katie Murphy (12) and Lauren Hutchinson (10).
Casey Garvey dished out 34 assists for the Bulldogs, which hit .256 at the net and recorded 11 service aces. Alexis Bauer led Samford with 17 digs with Chelsi Carter adding 14.
Young, a Pelham, Ala., native who was named to the All-Tournament team, led Southeastern wit 28 assists while McMillin added 17.
