HAMMOND – Taylor Meade recorded eight kills, 16 digs and seven service aces as Louisiana-Lafayette defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21, in a non-conference volleyball match on Tuesday at the University Center.

Tonice White led ULL (8-8) with 13 kills while Mandi Gavin dished out 33 assists and had four blocks. Southeastern, which opens Southland Conference play on Thursday at Lamar, fell to 4-13 overall and dropped its first contest at home in three matches.

Freshman Elizabeth Ramee led Southeastern, which hit .145 at the net, with 11 kills with Courtney Donald adding seven. Lindsey Young posted a double-double for the Lady Lions with 26 assists and 13 digs while Paige Dollison added four blocks.

ULL pulled away in the opening set behind the serve of Meade, who recorded three consecutive aces in a span that helped turn a 12-11 lead into a 19-12 cushion. Southeastern got as close as 20-15 on a block by Donald, but the Cajuns responded with a block and Kristen Armstrong closed out the opening set with four straight points, including an ace.

The Cajuns built a 16-10 lead in the second set before Southeastern chipped away. The Lady Lions capitalized on four ULL attack errors to close to within 20-18, but Meade stopped the rally with a kill before Southeastern committed two attack errors to push the ULL lead to 23-18.

A kill by Tonice White, who led ULL with 13, gave the Cajuns a 5-1 lead in the third set before Southeastern narrowed the gap and tied the score at 12-12 after an error by Meade. An error by White and a kill by Arianne Cruckshank gave Southeastern a 14-12 lead, but the Cajuns stopped the run and the serve of Meade helped ULL regain the lead it would not relinquish.

Caitlin Auxilien recorded 17 digs to lead ULL while Armstrong added 12 and a two of the Cajuns' 10 service aces in the match. Lesley Mirarchi added five blocks to lead the Cajuns.
