Lady Lions Drop Tough Contests To Tech, South Alabama In Jaguar Classic

Southeastern closes out second weekend against Alabama A&M, Samford

MOBILE, Ala. – Samia Salomao and Melissa Waelter combined for 25 kills and South Alabama fought off Southeastern Louisiana, 25-20, 25-23, 32-30, to cap the first day of the Jaguar Classic on Friday at Jag Gym.

Earlier in the day, Southeastern built a two sets to one lead, but was unable to hold off in-state rival Louisiana Tech in a five-set 27-25, 16-25, 25-23, 22-25, 6-15 contest.

Southeastern (1-5) will conclude play on Saturday when it faces Alabama A&M at 3 p.m. and Samford at 5. Live statistics for both matches, courtesy of South Alabama, is available at www.LionSports.net.

LOUISIANA TECH 3, SOUTHEASTERN 2
Kinsey Williams tied a career-high with 14 kills while hitting .242 at the net as Southeastern came out on fire, hitting .312 as a team in the opening set. Tech (2-2) came back in the second set behind a .306 hitting percentage before the Lady Lions came out of the break, hitting .140 compared to the Techsters' .132.

Tech forced a fifth set as it held off Southeastern and then took advantage of a minus-.045 hitting percentage by the Lady Lions in the fifth set to earn the win.

Clara Vido led Louisiana Tech with 10 kills while adding 14 digs for a double-double. Bianca Bin (39 assists, 16 digs) also added a double-double while Stephany Salas had a match-high 29 digs.

Freshman Elizabeth Ramee posted a season-high 11 kills for Southeastern while Stephanie Mueller added nine with Paige Dollison and Courtney Donald adding eight.

Lindsey Young (29 assists, 20 digs) and Arianne Cruckshank (14 assists, 10 digs) each posted double-doubles for Southeastern while Megan McMillin had 17 digs, Taylor Buckner 14 and Chelsea Barr 13.

SOUTH ALABAMA 3, SOUTHEASTERN 0
USA held off Southeastern in the first two sets before rallying from a 24-21 deficit in the third to earn the victory. Katarinna Kananen led the Jaguars with 37 assists while Maureen Ros leading the team with 16 digs.

Dollison led Southeastern at the net with nine kills while hitting .333. Williams added six kills and a .385 hitting percentage for the Lady Lions while Donald added six kills. Young nearly missed a double-double, finishing with 17 assists and nine digs. McMillin and Buckner led Southeastern with 12 digs apiece.
