Lady Lions Fall To Louisiana Tech, HBU In Husky Classic

Southeastern closes out tournament on Saturday against Southern Miss at 11 a.m.

HOUSTON – Courtney Donald paced the Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team in matches against Louisiana Tech and Houston Baptist, but it was not enough as the Lady Lions dropped both matches in the HBU Husky Classic on Friday at Sharp Gym.

Southeastern (4-11) opened with a 25-17, 17-25, 25-14, 25-21 setback to Tech in its opening match before coming back and dropping a 25-11, 25-19, 25-13 decision to HBU in the nightcap.

The Lady Lions will close out the tournament on Saturday when it faces Southern Miss (5-6) in an 11 a.m. match.

LOUISIANA TECH 3, SOUTHEASTERN 1
Donald, a Tomball, Texas native and one of three Lady Lions from the Houston metropolitan area on the 2011 roster, had 11 kills and hit .226 at the net for Southeastern while Paige Dollison added nine kills and a career-high eight blocks. Freshman Elizabeth Ramee added seven kills for the Lady Lions while Lindsey Young posted a double-double with 31 assists and a team-high 16 digs.

Nataliya Panova recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs to lead Tech (7-7) while Clara Vido added 15 kills. Bianca Bin posted 40 assists for the Techsters while Stephany Salas added 11 digs.

The Techsters outhit Southeastern, .246-.209, at the net and recorded 13 service aces with the Lady Lions tallying six. Southeastern recorded a season-best 9.0 blocks in the match as freshman Zoe Douglas, a Houston native, added five.

HOUSTON BAPTIST 3, SOUTHEASTERN 0
Heather Leaverton led a balanced attack for HBU (12-3) with eight kills with Jasmine Casey adding seven. Caity Wenger and Isis Gardner recorded six kills each for the Huskies, who hit .301 for the match and posted 11.5 blocks as a team.

Victoria Weatherly led HBU with 23 assists while Courtney Whittleman had 11 digs.

Donald led Southeastern with eight kills and three blocks while Kinsey Williams came off the bench and added six kills. Young added a team-high 19 assists for the Lady Lions and Megan McMillin recorded a team-high seven digs.
